Please register with DPRC to ensure that your accommodations are appropriately and efficiently communicated to university faculty and staff.
You may register using the following steps:
- Apply to SF State
- Complete and submit a DPRC registration form and provide disability documentation
- Schedule an initial appointment with a Disability Specialist
- Implement your accommodations and check-in with DPRC
Determination and setup of accommodations is greatly expedited when you turn in your DPRC registration form and disability documentation before your initial appointment. However, you are welcome to meet with a Disability Specialist at any point in the registration process whether or not you have documentation available.
Please know that it could take one to five weeks to get started with DPRC. This is based on a number of potential factors, including but not limited to: the nature of a student’s academic accommodation requests, the availability of appropriate supporting documentation, and scheduling appointments during peak periods of a semester.
- Newly admitted SF State students are advised to start this process once they have confirmed admission to the SF State.
- SF State students already enrolled should engage DPRC as soon as possible once they have identified a barrier and/or need.
Once accommodations are established, they are applied proactively rather than retroactively, so planning ahead is very important. The steps below provide general information about transitioning to college, and also outline the process for requesting and receiving disability accommodations at SF State.
The DPRC Registration form is a brief online questionnaire is for students to describe the impacts and history of a disability and/or health condition, and request accommodations.
Step 1a: Requesting SF State On-Campus Housing Accommodations
Students seeking accommodations for on-campus housing should visit the DPRC Accommodations for On Campus Housing page.
Documentation that establishes the nature of a disability and as well as its impact for the student in the educational environment is needed to support requested accommodations. SF State has specific documentation guidelines to provide an outline of the information necessary to establish that a student has a disability and/or temporary health condition.
Note: If a disability is apparent and the need for a requested accommodations can easily be established, additional documentation may not be needed.
Upon submission of the registration form, a DPRC staff member will follow-up to schedule an initial meeting. At this appointment a Disability Specialist will conduct an interactive process that includes:
- Completing the DPRC registration form if not already on file
- Accepting submission of any disability documentation if not already on file
- Reviewing student and DPRC rights and responsibilities
- Reviewing any submitted disability documentation, time permitting
- Exploring eligibility for services via an interview with you
- Scheduling a follow-up appointment if needed
- Answering your questions about the reasonable accommodation process
Meetings are generally scheduled in advance for one hour between the hours of 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday-Friday and can be conducted in-person, over the phone, or Zoom (video conferencing) when appropriate. Please note, initial appointments are not generally scheduled during Drop-In Hours, which are intended for short 10-15 minute meetings.
Release of Information: Students will need to submit an Information Exchange Authorization Form if they would like DPRC staff to discuss disability accommodations with a family member, healthcare provider, or other third parties.
If you are denied admission to SF State and believe that you have been unable to complete a subject requirement because of a disability, an appeal can be made to the SF State Undergraduate Admissions Office. It is recommended that you include with your appeal disability documentation by a qualified professional illustrating how the disability has affected your academic performance.
